[Food Review] Chequers @ Taman Tun Dr Ismail

Kuala Lumpur, October 2015 – Just two weeks ago, I have attended a food review session at CHEQUERS located at Taman Tun Dr Ismail. (Special Thanks To Food Ink for the invitation). It’s “WAFFLE” (was a) great day!

Waffles At Its Best! CHEQUERS, a specialist in waffles making!
Have you guys heard of “Waffle Day” before? It was a day that the Swedish celebrate every year on 25th March while the United States celebrate it on 24th August. Waffle has been a popular snack, tea pastry, dessert and even main course around the world. There are many types of waffles like American waffle, Belgian waffle and etc in the market.

Here in CHEQUERS, waffle dishes are their specialty. This is an American diner restaurant that served great options of waffles as well as other American influenced dishes.

CHEQUERS has the same pronunciation as the word “checkers” representing boxes concept that looks similar to a waffle. The owners Michelle and Terrence named the restaurant “Chequers” to resemble their specialization of waffle dishes.

Backstory About The Restaurant!
During their vacation in United States, Michelle and Terrence thought that the American diner restaurant concept was rather unique and attractive. It is something very rare in Malaysia. In order to share their experience to the locals here, they have decided to bring back the diner concept from America to Malaysia.

To ensure the dining environment and atmosphere are as close to what they have experienced in America, they worked closely with their designer and contractors to match the interior design with the American diner feel. Fun and cozy atmosphere is what they hope that the customers can feel.

About The Food:
Here’s the most important part, the food! Me and my fellow food sampling buddy John Chen have been given a golden opportunity to taste the different varieties of waffles available in Chequers!

Moo Moo
Love burgers but bored with usual sesame buns? Try this! Juicy homemade sirloin beef patty, cheddar cheese, slaw, relish and beef bacon topped with barbecue sauce, sandwiched in savory waffles, served with salads and waffle fries. Yummy!

Double Deck Croque Monsieur
For cheese lovers, here’s something you can indulge! Grilled turkey ham and tomato slices sandwiched in savory waffles, topped with sunny side up and served on top of gooey cheese. Sinful but addictive!

Melting Moments
Love the waffles in dessert way?? Try this Melting Moments consisting of banana fritters topped with caramel sauce and almond nibs, bedded on choc chip waffle, served with vanilla ice cream. A pleasant treat for the sweet tooth.

Deconstructed Tiramisu
This is one of the signature dish in Chequers. Tiramisu with waffle stick and mascarpone mousse. Mix the mascarpone mousse with espresso and dip the waffle stick into the mixed mousse for the most perfect enjoyment.
