[Upcoming Event] The Tales of The Moon @ Sungei Wang Plaza

Kuala Lumpur, September 2022 – This year marks the 45th anniversary of Sungei Wang Plaza, and what better way to commemorate the occasion than by winning The BrandLaureate BestBrands Awards 2021-2022, Nation's Pride Brand of the Year in Nation's Most ICONIC & Renowned Mall. Indeed, this is a timely acknowledgement as they prepare to launch the iconic Sungei Wang Plaza's Mid-Autumn Festival. This year, Sungei Wang Plaza debuts its latest cultural and art installation, 'Mid-Autumn The Tales of the Moon,' which will run from September 1st to September 25th, 2022.

"After a three-year hiatus from hosting a full-fledged Mid-Autumn Festival, it is now time for us to bring back one of Sungei Wang Plaza's most anticipated events of the year, the Mid-Autumn Lantern Parade." This parade brings back many happy memories of exciting times, as well as the rich history of Sungei Wang Plaza. Mr Ng Yih Chen, Chairman of Sungei Wang Plaza Management Corporation, says, "The Mid-Autumn Festival has always been a platform to promote our cultural and heritage to locals and tourists alike."

With a giant inflatable moon at the Centre Court, a giant rabbit at the Main Entrance, four hand-painted jade rabbits, and an entire street filled with over 500 lanterns along the Lantern Walk, the mall is transformed into an insta-worthy photo and video-taking location.

Sungei Wang Plaza will also be handing out over 500 goodie bags to invite shoppers to join for the upcoming Lantern Parade on September 10th, 2022 at the Main Entrance. On that day, there will be a variety of activities and performances, including a drumming workshop, a lantern painting workshop, and a colouring contest. A line-up of performances will begin at 3.00pm at the Centre Court, followed by the launch of 'Mid-Autumn The Tales of the Moon' at 6.00pm. At the event, you can also meet your favourite local celebrities, @kelkelhee, @klayheng, @adelinewongg, and @zuvia p from Dissy and Co. Yang Berhormat Tuan Fong Kui Lun, Member of Parliament for Bukit Bintang, will lead the Lantern Parade, which will cover a 1-kilometer radius around Bukit Bintang. Over 32 lion dance troupes will perform at the Lantern Parade, including two lion dances for the Launching Ceremony! This is an event not to be missed.

Sungei Wang Plaza is also pleased to announce Magnum as the main sponsor, who has consistently supported their cultural and CSR events. Their event sponsors include Tourism Malaysia, the Federation of Selangor and the Federal Territory Dragon and Lion Dance.

Persatuan Hakka Wilayah Persekutuan dan Selangor, Persatuan Ka Yin Wilayah KL & Selangor, DJI, Becon Stationery, The Malaysian Book of Records, and Craft Space are among the organisations involved.

Tales from the Moon

As you enter the mall, look up to see Malaysia's Largest Inflatable Moon, which spans 10 metres and is hung at the Centre Court. Take your time gazing into the open space as you admire this record-breaking moon in the mall's centre. The Malaysia Book of Records has certified the 10 metre diameter moon as the Largest Inflatable Moon in Malaysia.

The Jade Rabbit's Tales

A 5 metre tall Jade Rabbit greets you as you drive past or enter Sungei Wang Plaza via the Main Entrance, along with four hand-painted artworks by our four local college and university partners, namely Multimedia University (MMU), New Era University College, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), and Malaysian Institute of Art (MIA).

The Lantern Walk

Check out the well-lit Lantern Walk near Sungei Wang Plaza's Main Entrance. Over 500 lanterns have been hung to brightly illuminate Sungei Wang Walk with Mid-Autumn colours. To be on trend for the Mid-Autumn Festival, shoppers can take selfies and group photos.
