[Official Press Release] GSC LAUNCHES 29TH CINEMA IN QUILL CITY MALL


Kuala Lumpur, December 2014 – Recently, Golden Screen Cinemas Sdn Bhd (GSC) has launched its latest Cinema – GSC Quill City Mall located in Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur  (opposite Sheraton Imperial Hotel) .

The new cinema features 10-screen multiplex with a seating capacity of 1,751(including 20 wheelchair space). Together with the existing GSC Pavilion KL (13-screens) and GSC Berjaya Times Square (10-screens), it totals up to 33-screens with total seating of 5,661 in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.


During the launch ceremony, Ms Koh Mei Lee (GSC CEO) shared, “Built at the cost of RM21.5 million, this new multiplex features a THX hall equipped with the new revolutionary Dolby Atmos “3D” audio sound system to deliver an immersive cinematic experience.”

GSC Quill City Mall is also equipped with a new concept which is a “projection room-less” auditorium in Hall 7 that features a retractable digital projector mounted to the auditorium ceiling.

Amongst the guests present at the event were Dato’ Michael Ong (Group Executive Director – Quill Group of Companies), Dato’ Dr Jennifer Low (Group Managing Director – Quill Group of Companies), Mr Irving Chee (GSC General Manager), Mr Heng Beng Fatt (GSC Deputy General Manager), movie distributors, GSC business partners and associates.

In 2015, GSC will continue to extend its footprints in Malaysia with five new locations – GSC NU Sentral Kuala Lumpur, GSC IOI City Mall Putrajaya, GSC Klang Parade, GSC  Ipoh Parade, GSC Aman Central Alor Setar and in 2016 – GSC Bintulu Times Square, Sarawak.



Upgrading work is in progress for GSC Mid Valley Megamall to 21 screens and also in GSC Summit USJ in Subang Jaya to meet the needs of the current movie-goers. These investments are estimated to cost more than RM115 million in total and further reinforces GSC commitment to provide the ultimate cinema-going experience to movie fans throughout the country.

Dolby® Atmos (better known as 3D sound system) represents a completely new platform for cinema sound. It introduces powerful new listening experiences for the movies, with sound that truly envelops you and allows you to hear the whole picture. With Dolby® Atmos, filmmakers can now precisely position and move sounds anywhere in a theatre—even overhead—to heighten the realism and impact of every scene.

THX defines the quality and performance of the world’s premier movie theatres. A THX Certified Hall is built from the ground up, taking every aspect of the entertainment experience into consideration, often times installing additional materials and equipment to create an environment that will totally immerse you in the story.

Every THX certified hall is designed in a way to recreate the acoustics, ambience, background noise projection and viewing characteristics of the movie studio. THX hall enables customers to experience the on-screen action and the subtle detail of the movie’s sound effects, score and dialogue exactly as what the filmmaker intended. All this is to ensure that cinema-goers can enjoy the ultimate movie-going experience.

Online ticketing and concession facility (GSC e-Payment and e-Combo) for both internet and mobile purchases (via GSC Mobile app –Windows Phone, iOS and Android) are available in this location. This includes auto-gate features to provide convenience to cinema-goers. GSC now operates 252 digital screens in 29 locations in Malaysia and a total 277 digital screens in 34 locations across Malaysia and Vietnam through a joint-venture partnership with Galaxy Studio which operates 25 screens in five locations in Ho Chi Minh City. 



From Dec 18 onwards, GSC Quill City Mall customers can look forward to “Buy 1 Free 1” vouchers* upon ticket purchase at the ticketing counters, free “Heaven & Earth”* can drinks with every GSC Combo 3 purchased. (Note: * while stocks last).

Fun activities are in store on weekends and public holidays between 20 – 28 December whereby the public can participate in “Night at the Museum 3: Secret of the Tomb” Memory Game, “The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies” photo wall activity, “Seventh Son” Lucky 7 Reflex games and “Into the Woods” Puzzle Game, featuring iconic characters and loads of prizes to be won.
