PETALING JAYA, 2026 — The Square at Jaya One is preparing to welcome a fresh chapter in its live entertainment journey with the launch of PJ Comedy Fest 2026, an inaugural five-day multilingual comedy festival taking place from 29 July to 2 August 2026.

Presented by DeStage in collaboration with Kam Productions, the festival will assemble 29 comedians and 11 young performers across nine productions, offering audiences a wide-ranging celebration of Malaysia’s established comedy personalities, emerging entertainers and multicultural storytelling traditions.

During the press conference, organisers shared that PJ Comedy Fest 2026 is intended to be more than a collection of comedy shows. The festival also marks the first major showcase under DeStage’s management of the performance venue at The Square, signalling renewed ambitions for theatre, comedy, music and community-based creative programming in Petaling Jaya.

Comedy in Four Languages

Reflecting Malaysia’s diverse cultural identity, the festival programme will feature performances in English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Tamil.

The nine productions will span several live entertainment formats, including stand-up comedy, improvisational performances, storytelling showcases, interactive productions and theatrical experiences. Performances will be staged across DeStage’s Studio and Main Theatre Hall, giving audiences the opportunity to experience different styles of comedy within the same festival.

One of the main highlights will be the Comedy Gala, which will bring together several recognisable names from the Malaysian comedy scene.

The festival line-up includes talents such as Joanne Kam, Shamaine Othman, Kavin Jay, Andrew Netto, Kuah Jenhan, Farid Azmeir, K-Shao, Jasmine Rajah, Brian Tan, Prakash Daniel, Keren Bala Devan and the acclaimed Pinball Monkeys improvisational troupe.

Additional featured performers highlighted during the announcement include Papi Zak, Fattah Azeem, Ruoh Peng and Mad Sabah, further demonstrating the variety of personalities and comedic perspectives represented at the festival.

Beyond presenting established performers, PJ Comedy Fest 2026 will also create opportunities for younger and emerging talents to perform before a wider audience. This focus on talent development is expected to introduce festival-goers to the next generation of Malaysian comedians while strengthening the local comedy ecosystem.

A Family-Friendly Finale

The five-day celebration will conclude with a family-friendly production of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, presented by EM Drama.

By including a theatrical production suitable for audiences of different ages, the organisers aim to make the festival accessible not only to comedy fans but also to families seeking a shared live entertainment experience.

Continuing The Square’s Creative Legacy

The performance venue at The Square, Jaya One has served as a familiar home for Malaysian theatre, comedy and cultural events since opening in 2009.

Over the years, it has welcomed performers, creative communities and audiences through theatre productions, comedy showcases, open-mic sessions and other live programmes. Recognisable Malaysian comedians such as Harith Iskander, Joanne Kam, Douglas Lim and Kavin Jay are among the many performers who have appeared at the venue throughout its history.

Like many performance spaces, the venue faced major difficulties during the COVID-19 pandemic when live events were temporarily halted. During that period, the space adapted by accommodating seminars, private functions, community gatherings and other creative activities.

Its latest chapter now begins under DeStage, which is introducing upgraded facilities, expanded cultural programming and a new LED stage backdrop experience designed to improve both production possibilities and the overall audience experience.

A Collaborative Entertainment Ecosystem

DeStage’s plans for The Square are supported by a broader entertainment network involving AFO Radio and CSS Solutions Platform.

Under this collaborative structure, DeStage provides the performance spaces, production capabilities and staging infrastructure. AFO Radio contributes through media engagement, artist support, broadcasting and audience outreach, while CSS Solutions Platform supports commercial partnerships and event-related services.

Together, the organisations aim to develop original programmes, nurture Malaysian creative talent and bring larger-scale entertainment experiences to audiences at The Square.

Kam Productions is also playing an important role in the development of PJ Comedy Fest 2026. Led by Malaysia’s celebrated “Queen of Comedy”, Joanne Kam, the production company contributes experience in programming, event production and audience development gained through live entertainment projects in Malaysia and abroad.

The collaboration between DeStage, AFO Radio, CSS Solutions Platform and Kam Productions is expected to provide a stronger foundation for future creative programming, combining venue management, production expertise, media reach and commercial support.

Rockafellers Extends the Festival Experience

The festival experience will continue beyond the performance halls through Rockafellers, described as The Square’s 360-degree food, beverage and entertainment destination.

Rockafellers will complement the programme with dining, drinks and social activities, including live performances, themed evenings, happy-hour promotions, ladies’ nights, music bingo sessions, cocktail experiences and celebration packages.

Throughout the PJ Comedy Fest 2026 period, ticket holders will also be entitled to an exclusive 15% discount on à la carte food items at Rockafellers.

The initiative is intended to encourage guests to arrive earlier, gather after the performances and enjoy a more complete day-to-night entertainment experience at The Square.

Through this combination of comedy, theatre, food, community activities and nightlife, The Square aims to re-establish itself as a lively destination where Malaysian creativity and social experiences can come together.

四种语言呈现马来西亚多元喜剧文化

为了展现马来西亚多元文化特色，本届喜剧节将以 英语、马来语、华语及淡米尔语 呈现不同节目。

九部制作涵盖栋笃笑、即兴表演、故事演说、互动演出及剧场作品，并分别在 DeStage 的 Studio 与 Main Theatre Hall 上演，让观众能够在同一个艺术节中体验不同形式的现场喜剧。

其中备受关注的重点节目之一，是集合多位本地喜剧人的 Comedy Gala。

这部家庭友善的剧场制作让活动不只面向成年喜剧观众，也为家庭与年轻观众提供共同参与现场演出的机会。

延续 The Square 多年来的创意文化角色

Jaya One The Square 的表演场地自 2009年 开放以来，一直是马来西亚剧场、喜剧和文化活动的重要据点之一。

多年来，这里曾举办剧场制作、喜剧演出、开放麦活动及各类型现场节目，陪伴一代又一代的表演者与观众。曾在这里登台的知名本地喜剧人包括 Harith Iskander、Joanne Kam、Douglas Lim 及 Kavin Jay 等。

与全球许多表演场地一样，The Square 在新冠疫情期间也面对严峻挑战。现场活动暂停后，场地转而承接讲座、私人活动、社区聚会及其他创意用途，继续为社群提供活动空间。

如今，场地在 DeStage 的管理下踏入新阶段。除了提升现有设施，DeStage 也计划推动更多喜剧、剧场、音乐、社区艺术及文化节目，并增设全新的 LED 舞台背景体验，进一步提升制作效果与观众的现场观赏体验。

多方合作建立完整娱乐生态

DeStage 在 The Square 的发展计划也获得 AFO Radio 及 CSS Solutions Platform 支持。

在这套合作模式中，DeStage 负责场地、制作能力及舞台基础设施；AFO Radio 则通过媒体宣传、艺人互动、广播及观众拓展等方式提供支持；CSS Solutions Platform 则协助商业合作及活动支援。

三方希望共同开发原创节目、扶持马来西亚创意人才，并把规模更大的现场娱乐项目带到 The Square。

此外，由马来西亚“喜剧女王” Joanne Kam 领导的 Kam Productions，也在 PJ Comedy Fest 2026 的筹备过程中扮演重要角色。凭借在国内外制作现场娱乐活动的经验，Kam Productions 将在节目策划、制作执行及观众发展方面提供专业支持。

DeStage、AFO Radio、CSS Solutions Platform 与 Kam Productions 的合作，把场地管理、制作经验、媒体推广及商业资源结合起来，为 The Square 日后的现场娱乐发展建立更完整的基础。

Rockafellers 延伸舞台以外的欢乐体验

除了剧场内的演出，位于 The Square 的 Rockafellers 也将为活动增添餐饮、社交与夜生活体验。

作为结合餐饮、饮品与娱乐的综合空间，Rockafellers 将推出现场演出、主题之夜、欢乐时段优惠、女士之夜、音乐宾果、鸡尾酒活动及庆祝配套等内容。

在 PJ Comedy Fest 2026 举行期间，持票观众还可在 Rockafellers 享有 单点餐点15%折扣。

主办单位希望观众除了进场看演出，也能在节目开始前用餐、演出结束后继续交流，让整个活动成为更完整的日夜娱乐体验。
