[Press Conference Coverage] Astro Originals Presents “The Exiled《義和》” in Kuala Lumpur: Full Cast Appearance, LIVE Theme Song Performance and Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Insights
KUALA LUMPUR, December 2025 — Astro Originals officially launched its latest Chinese-language crime-action triad drama The Exiled《義和》 with a large-scale press conference featuring its principal cast members from both Malaysia and Hong Kong. The event included a live performance of the series’ theme song, the release of new preview footage, and extensive sharing sessions from the cast and creative team.
Set in the fictional underworld of Nam Kong, The Exiled《義和》 depicts the turbulence within a brotherhood facing internal rifts and external threats. The 15-episode series will premiere on 14 December 2025, airing every Sunday at 9:30 PM on Astro AEC (CH306), Astro GO, On Demand and sooka.
LIVE Performance of Theme Song “光与诚” Highlights the Event
The press conference opened with a powerful LIVE rendition of the theme song 《光与诚》, performed by Henley Hii, Tedd Chan, and Juztin Lan.
Although composer Ciang Teng (邓智彰) was not present, it was stated that the piece is one of his most challenging compositions to date due to its brisk rhythm and emotional intensity. His remarks reflect the strong musical direction behind the drama.
The live performance successfully set an energetic tone for the event.
Cast Members Share Their On-Set Experiences
Throughout the press conference, the cast spoke candidly about the production challenges, character development and memorable filming moments.
Alvin Wong, who appears with a red wig in the series, described wearing it for extended hours as “one of the toughest physical challenges” he has experienced, though he approached the role wholeheartedly.Freddie Wong, often seen in authoritative gangster roles, noted that this time he portrays a debt collector — a shift that places him on the receiving end of conflict rather than leading it. Jordan Voon shared that the first episode’s major briefing scene required intensive overnight preparation: “I rehearsed till 3AM. It was mentally demanding, but rewarding.”
Juztin Lan, who participated in the LIVE performance, expressed appreciation for being included in both the musical and acting aspects of the production. Eric Chen and Rabbit Chen discussed their roles as crucial figures supporting the narrative’s internal power dynamics.
Portraying Complexity in the Underworld
Tedd Chan described his character as a “strategic survivor” who changes allegiances when circumstances shift. Tan Li Yang acknowledged the guidance he received from co-stars Ali Lee and Lai Lok Yi, which he said enhanced his portrayal as part of Nam Kong’s “trio of power.” Ash Lu shared insights into playing “Siyan Jai (四眼仔),” an unassuming but cunning observer who manoeuvres the treacherous underworld through wit rather than force.
Female Cast Spotlight: Emotion, Trauma and On-Screen Intensity
Elyn Leong, returning to acting after nearly a decade, said her role required her to navigate emotionally heavy material involving trauma. Kimmy Low revealed that her scenes carried significant sensual tension, calling them “intense in a different way than action scenes.”
Hayden Wong, who frequently acts opposite Ali Lee and Elyn Leong, was light-heartedly teased by cast members for being “surrounded by two pretty female co-actors.” Eric Lai, known for his humorous real-life personality, noted that portraying a stern, disciplined police chief required a substantial tonal shift.
Hong Kong Lead Actors Draw Media Spotlight
Director 马逸騰 (Teng Bee) spoke about the opportunity to work with Hong Kong stars Ali Lee and Lai Lok Yi, stating that their professionalism elevated the production during his first long-form drama project.
Intimate Scenes and Mandarin Dialogue Challenges for Chris Lai Lok-Yi
Newly released preview clips revealed intimate scenes between Chris Lai Lok-Yi and Shir Chong. Lai said the scenes were added later in the script, joking that he “did not have the chance to inform his wife beforehand.”
A separate trailer showed Ali Lee initiating a kiss with Chris. When asked if more such scenes would appear, she responded humorously: “There is more “passionate” scenes — for him.” Both Hong Kong leads discussed the challenge of performing Mandarin lines. Lai said he volunteered to speak Mandarin but was initially turned down by the director. “I insisted and eventually got one scene with me speaking in Mandarin” he said. Ali, who mainly speaks Cantonese in the drama, uses Mandarin mainly in scenes opposite Hayden Wong, noting that it has its significance for the narrative of the drama.
Henley Hii's Deep Immersion: Voice Strain & Family Reaction
Henley Hii, required to perform entirely in Cantonese, praised Lai Lok Yi for on-set guidance. He shared that altering his voice to sound rougher led to throat strain.
His daughter, who attended the premiere screening, was startled by his fierce on-screen demeanour and requested to leave, prompting Henley to explain gently that “Daddy was acting.”
Possibility of a Sequel?
When asked about the potential for a continuation, director 马逸騰 responded that future decisions would depend on performance and internal considerations. Discussions about Ali Lee singing in a sequel were also raised after Lai Lok Yi jokingly suggested it.
Ali Lee on TVB Awards and Future Malaysian Projects
Ali, nominated for “Best Actress” at the TVB Awards for Heavenly Hand (麻雀乐团), shared that she has not received any notification yet, thus has not planned on whether to attend or not.
In a brief interview, WLJack.com’s editor Jack (who’s a big fans for Ali Lee) asked Ali if she would film in Malaysia again. Ali did not dismiss the possibility, offering hope to local fans anticipating her return.
