[Upcoming Concert] MPO Presents “Rhapsodic Rachmaninoff”
THE MPO PRESENTS ‘RHAPSODIC RACHMANINOFF’ AT DEWAN FILHARMONIK PETRONAS!
Kuala Lumpur, 2023 - The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will perform a spellbinding classical music treat on 21 October 2023 (Saturday) at 8.30 p.m. at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC.
The MPO will present a dose of masterpieces with varying mood, colour, and rhythm under the theme Rhapsodic Rachmaninoff. The MPO will begin the concert with Wagner's Tannhauser Overture, which moves through a series of moods defined by tone colour and rhythmic variety. Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini follows, a work that presents a theme in a variety of ways in both piano and orchestra. Rachmaninoff's greatest composition combines wit, charm, and masterful orchestration.
Lilya Zilberstein, a pianist, makes her MPO debut in presenting Rachmaninoff's work. She appears regularly in major concert halls and prominent music festivals throughout Europe, Canada, the United States, South America, and the Middle East, with recent highlights including performances at the Salzburg Festival and the Easter Festival. She has appeared with prestigious orchestras such as the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestra della Scala in Milan, and the Staatskapelle Dresden.
The concert will be culminated with Beethoven’s Symphony No.7 in A, a work of sheer visceral excitement, created primarily through a driving rhythmic energy. It was first performed at a gala benefit concert for wounded soldiers in Vienna in 1813.
After working with the MPO in 2018, Maestro Micha Nesterowicz returns to the DFP podium. In recent years, he has established himself as one of the world's most recognisable Polish conductors.

Lilya Zilberstein will hold a piano masterclass at DFP on 18th October 2023 (Wednesday) at 5.30 p.m., in conjunction with her debut concert with the MPO. Ticket purchases for this event can be made at the Box Office.
