DFP PRESENTS RENOWNED JAPANESE SINGER TOKIKO KATO ‘LIVE’ WITH THE MPO
Kuala Lumpur, 2023 - On Wednesday, 20th September 2023, at 8 p.m., Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP) will continue its 25th anniversary celebration by hosting a special concert by renowned Japanese singer Tokiko Kato.
This unique concert, with the theme Love Songs, from Soul to Soul Across the Sea, will feature Kato working with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) and will be conducted by Naohisa Furusawa. The concert is supported by The Embassy of Japan and Japan Foundation Kuala Lumpur.
This performance fits in with DFP's ongoing efforts to showcase a range of musical genres that are appealing to audiences from all backgrounds. DFP is renowned for its superb acoustics and has 920 seats available at once.
1943-born in Harbin, Kato won the Japan Amateur Chanson Competition in 1965. Since then, she has released more than 80 albums, creating a number of top hits for Japan.
She has given performances all over the world, including at Carnegie Hall in New York in 1988. In recognition of her artistic accomplishments and cultural activities, the French government awarded her the prestigious Chevalier Medal for Culture in 1992.
In addition to being active as a singer, Kato made appearances in the films Izakaya Choji (1983) and Porco Rosso (1992), both of which were animated features produced by the renowned Ghibli Studio and shown in France, the United States, and Italy. In Porco Rosso, she also sang and wrote Le Temps des Cherises (The Time of Cherries).
Kato and the MPO will perform a grand symphonic arrangement of Kato's songs at this special concert, which will perfectly complement her angelic voice. Her versatility will be further demonstrated as she performs hits like Talk of Times Past, If You Love Me, Anak, A Million Roses, songs from the Porco Rosso movie, and The Beatles' Imagine.
DFP is celebrating its 25th anniversary by offering a distinctive musical selection!
