[Coverage] “Discover Guizhou” Brings China–Malaysia Cultural Tourism and Audiovisual Exchange to Pavilion Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR, 2026 — Malaysian audiences were given a closer look at the landscapes, culture and tourism appeal of Guizhou during the “Discover Guizhou: China–Malaysia Cultural Tourism and Audiovisual Exchange Journey”, held at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur on 29 August 2026.

The event was jointly organised by the International Communication Centre of Guizhou Radio and Television Station, Anshun Tourism Group Co., Ltd., Mango Media Sdn Bhd and Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, with support from the Malaysia Guizhou Chamber of Commerce.

More than 100 guests representing Malaysian government agencies, tourism authorities, mainstream media, chambers and business associations, travel operators, universities, aviation companies and Chinese enterprises operating in Malaysia attended the programme. More than 20 influencers and content creators were also present.

Through tourism presentations, traditional music and dance, fashion showcases and immersive cultural experiences, the programme introduced Malaysian audiences to Guizhou’s natural scenery, ethnic heritage and local way of life.

Strengthening Cultural Connections Between China and Malaysia

Huang Bei, Deputy Director of the Satellite TV Centre and Deputy Director of the International Communication Centre of Guizhou Radio and Television Station, highlighted Guizhou’s natural landscapes, diverse ethnic traditions and rich cultural heritage.

She expressed hope that the “Discover Guizhou” series would enable more Malaysians to learn about the province, while encouraging Malaysian travellers to experience Guizhou’s scenery, culture and hospitality for themselves.

Also attending the event was YB Wong Siew Ki, Member of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly for Seri Kembangan, representing Malaysia’s Ministry of Communications.

She noted that the programme used audiovisual content, music, dance and fashion to bring Guizhou’s scenery and cultural stories closer to Malaysian audiences. The exchange also opened further opportunities for media organisations, content creators and cultural practitioners from both countries to build stronger connections.

Guizhou Culture Comes Alive Through Music, Dance and Fashion

One of the highlights of the programme was a cultural performance by artists from the Guizhou Song and Dance Theatre, who presented the ethnic dance piece “Young Men, Four-Stringed Lutes and Rhododendron Blossoms.”

The performers later joined Malaysian artists for the collaborative song-and-dance performance “Singing in Antiphony Until Sunset,” creating a cross-cultural exchange through music and movement.

The showcase continued with seven Malaysian models taking to the runway in elaborate traditional Miao ethnic costumes from Guizhou.

By involving local Malaysian participants in the presentation, the segment created a more interactive experience while offering audiences a closer look at the artistry, traditions and cultural significance behind Guizhou’s Miao attire.

Anshun Showcases Its Cool Climate, Natural Wonders and Cultural Heritage

Beyond the cultural performances, the event also placed the spotlight on Anshun, Guizhou, as a tourism destination.

Hu Jiang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Anshun Tourism Group, introduced guests to the city’s many attractions, ranging from its cool summer climate of approximately 21°C on average to major natural landmarks including Huangguoshu Waterfall and the water-filled karst caves of Loong Palace.

Anshun is also home to more than 600 years of Tunpu culture, together with a distinctive local food scene that has contributed to the city’s reputation as a culinary destination.

Its tourism offering extends beyond attractions alone, with an ecosystem covering dining, accommodation, transportation, sightseeing, shopping and entertainment — aimed at providing visitors with convenient and high-quality travel experiences.

Following the presentation, Shen Chen, Chief Tourism Ambassador of Anshun Tourism Group, introduced four specially curated travel itineraries featuring themes such as natural scenery, ethnic culture and cool-climate stays.

Special travel offers were also presented to invited guests as part of efforts to encourage tourism exchange and visitor flows between Malaysia and Anshun.

Malaysian Guests Share Their Impressions of Guizhou

Among those sharing their experiences was Dato’ Joyce Yap Soh Ching, who described Guizhou as an eye-opening destination despite having previously travelled to major Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

She highlighted Guizhou’s Miao villages, waterfalls and impressive bridges as memorable attractions, while also noting that the province’s characteristic sour-and-spicy flavours could be enjoyed even by family members who were not accustomed to spicy food.

For her, Guizhou is a destination worth experiencing at least once in a lifetime.

Malaysian travel and lifestyle influencer Vivienne was particularly impressed by the scenery of Huangguoshu Waterfall. She also felt that Guizhou would be a suitable destination for family travel, including hiking trips with parents.

With Malaysia experiencing warm weather throughout the year, she described Guizhou’s cooler climate as an appealing option for Malaysians seeking a refreshing getaway.

“Guizhou Cultural Street” Introduces Local Flavours to Pavilion KL Visitors

The cultural exchange extended beyond the main event.

Several days before the programme, the “Guizhou Cultural Street” had already opened at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, featuring Guizhou cuisine, tourism displays and interactive activities.

By bringing Guizhou-themed experiences into one of Kuala Lumpur’s major shopping destinations, the initiative attracted local residents and visitors while helping Malaysian audiences become more familiar with the province’s culture and tourism resources.

During the delegation’s visit to Malaysia, representatives from Guizhou also held discussions with organisations including Malaysia’s Ministry of Communications, Astro’s Chinese Business unit, Store N Go Sdn Bhd and Spark Motion Media (Holding) Sdn. Bhd.

The discussions covered areas including media communication, audiovisual content and industry cooperation, with the aim of expanding future collaboration between organisations in Malaysia and China.

With cultural performances, tourism experiences and industry exchanges coming together under one programme, the “Discover Guizhou” journey offered Malaysian audiences another opportunity to experience the province beyond the screen — while strengthening cultural and tourism connections between Malaysia and China.
