KUALA LUMPUR, 2025 – McDonald’s Malaysia is ready to touch hearts nationwide with the launch of its latest original content – a seven-episode mini-series titled “Senyuman” – premiering on 7 August 2025, 8:00pm, exclusively on the brand’s official Instagram account (@mcdonaldsmalaysia).

Headlined by three-time Best Actor winner Jack Tan (Ah Zhe) and beloved singer-actress Nabila Razali, with a special appearance by Lim Jian Wen, Senyuman (meaning “Smile” in Malay) explores the beauty of companionship and emotional healing.

A Story About Finding Back a Lost Smile

The series follows Ming (Jack Tan), a reserved young man who has seemingly forgotten how to smile. His cheerful colleague June (Nabila Razali) notices his quiet demeanor and, driven by care and curiosity, tries to connect with him. One evening, she invites him for dinner at McDonald’s. Over a shared serving of fries, Ming opens up about a painful childhood memory – marking the start of an emotional journey toward healing.

“This isn’t just another acting job – it’s a story about empathy, healing, and connection. Ming’s journey resonated deeply with me,” said Jack Tan. “Portraying his struggles was both challenging and meaningful.” Despite a tight shooting schedule, Tan was required to dive straight into emotionally intense scenes from day one. “I’m grateful to work alongside such talented actors like Nabila and Lim Jian Wen,” he added.

For Nabila Razali, Senyuman is her first time starring in a mini-series format. “McDonald’s is usually linked with fun and happiness, but this series takes a softer, more heartfelt approach,” she said. “My character’s goal is to bring Ming’s smile back – so I had to keep the energy light, even cracking jokes on set. I think I managed to melt Jack’s heart onscreen,” she joked.

The McDonald’s setting is more than just a backdrop – it’s symbolic of comfort and turning points. “The fries became the emotional key for Ming to open up,” Tan shared. “It even brought back my own childhood memories of sharing Happy Meals with family.”

Though each episode runs just 1–2 minutes, Senyuman aims to deliver a rich and moving story. “McDonald’s is more than a restaurant – it’s a place of warmth, memories, and togetherness,” Tan noted.

McDonald’s App Reaches 14 Million Downloads

The premiere of Senyuman coincides with McDonald’s Malaysia’s milestone achievement – surpassing 14 million downloads on its mobile app since launching in April 2018. With over 1.4 million monthly active users, the app offers easy ordering for dine-in, delivery, or Drive-Thru, along with daily deals and a rewards system for redeeming free items.
