DFP SENI FESTIVAL 2024 showcases cultural heritage and arts!

Kuala Lumpur, 2024 - Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), located in the heart of the PETRONAS Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), is proud to present DFP Seni Festival 2024, a three-month musical and performing arts extravaganza. This event is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to showcase diverse local talents as well as exciting cultural entertainment provided by renowned arts groups and orchestras.

This is the sixth time that DFP has organized a large-scale event with the goal of showcasing our traditional and heritage art forms to the world. Previously, DFP collaborated with a variety of cultural groups and artists to preserve, nurture, and promote the rich diversity of our invaluable art forms.

Hassina Begam Abdul Gani, Chief Executive Officer of DFP, stated, "Since its inception in 1998, DFP has remained steadfast in its artistic objective of presenting great performances by hosting many acclaimed artists." This year's festival demonstrates its commitment to cultivating an appreciation for our heritage legacy, such as traditional music and arts, by providing a venue for these timeless and inspiring performances for Malaysians from all walks of life."

On Saturday, 20th July 2024, at 8.30 p.m., the Jit Sin High School Chinese Orchestra will perform to kick off the festival. This concert, titled Dialogue of the Songs of Chu, will feature orchestral Chinese music, including a mesmerizing dialogue between the erhu and cello, performed by Tan Rou Yee and Lim Sing Yee, respectively. This orchestra, now celebrating its 50th anniversary, has received numerous accolades both in Malaysia and around the world.

Next, on Saturday, 27th July 2024, at 8.30 p.m., arts enthusiasts will be treated to a traditional Mek Mulung theatre performance. The presentation of the 500-year theatre, titled DFP Muzikal: Mek Mulung Putera Cahaya Bulan, is a collaboration between DFP, the Department of Culture & Arts (or Jabatan Kebudayaan & Kesenian Negara, JKKN), and Kumpulan Mek Mulung Seri Mahawangsa (a combination of Persatuan Penggerak Warisan Seni Budaya Negeri Kedah or 'AKRAB' and Kumpulan Mek Mulung Wang Tepus). It will star Arja Lee in the lead role in an exciting story of love and tragedy.

The festival continues with a traditional Minangkabau folk theatre performance called 'Randai' on Saturday, 10th August 2024, at 8.30 p.m. The audience will enjoy musical splendour in the enchanting world of DFP Muzikal: Randai Mudo Pak Belalang, where martial arts and dance come to life. This traditional theatre from Negeri Sembilan will feature a delightful blend of cultural richness and energetic dance performed by talented children trained by Pewara Dance Theater, a group of ASWARA alumni and staff.

The festival will conclude with a variety of exciting fringe activities held at the DFP lobby on Saturday, 7th September 2024, and Sunday, 8th September 2024, from 11 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Various arts organizations will present their own unique offerings in order to make music and the arts more accessible to the general public.
