[Borneo Event Coverage] Dokifest 2023 @ Palm Square, Centre Point Sabah

Kota Kinabalu, 2023 - In the heart of Borneo, the weekend of 14th-15th October 2023 was a good one for the Sabahan fans of anime, cosplay, and Japanese pop culture as Dokifest 2023 was held on both of the days.

The festival's stage reverberated with the enthralling performances by Eevu, Artemisnel, Song Ema, Chrys Jem, Indra, Sakura, and CSA7:CGF. The event also hosted a competitive platform for cosplay aficionados, with a cosplay competition that brought forth a spectrum of characters from beloved anime and manga series to life.

One of the defining features of Dokifest was its marketplace, crafted for anime and cosplay enthusiasts. It included a stamp collection card given to every visitor. By engaging with the stalls—be it following them on Instagram, indulging in the eccentricities of anime songs, or supporting local artists through purchases—attendees could collect stamps. These stamps were not mere keepsakes but a key to rolling gatcha balls, with the lucky few who completed their stamp cards winning exclusive Dokifest merchandise like tote bags and T-shirts.

The event's charm was further amplified by the engaging hosting of Mew, who carried the event seamlessly over the two days. The festival also catered to the photography community with a cosplay photography competition, providing a perfect milieu for photographers smitten by the art of capturing cosplayers in their element.

Overall, Dokifest 2023 is a good addition for the Anime, Cosplay, and Gaming (ACG) community in Sabah.

For Jack, the chief editor of wljack.com, covering Dokifest was a funtime. Despite his current tenure as a medical specialist in Keningau, his zest for documenting Borneo's burgeoning ACG culture remains undeterred. His anticipation for covering more such events in the future is high, as he believes they hold the potential of knitting the community closer while flaunting Borneo's unique cultural tapestry to the world.
