THE MPO COLLABORATES WITH TRUMPETER PACHO FLORES
AT DEWAN FILHARMONIK PETRONAS!

Kuala Lumpur, March 2016 – Take note, all music lovers! The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will present great masterpieces in concerts scheduled on Friday, 4 March 2016 and Saturday, 5 March 2016 at 8.30 p.m. at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC.

Under the baton of Japanese conductor Kazuki Yamada, the MPO will mesmerize its audience with Brahms’ Serenade No.2 in A, a relaxed and intimate world of genial sentiments and warm sonorities, first performed in 1860 by the Hamburg Philharmonic.

Zemlinsky’s Die Seejungfrau (The Mermaid) was based by Han Christian Andersen’s fairytale ‘The Little Mermaid’, one of the popular 170 stories from a collection that ranks among the finest achievements in world literature.

It is a story of an aquatic creature who longs to acquire a human soul. Her bronze statue, perched on a rock in Copenhagen’s waterfront, has become Denmark’s best known icon.

Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto in E flat, written in 1796 as a vehicle for a Viennese trumpeter is also included in the repertoire list, providing greater freedom in melodic writing for this instrument.

For this work, the MPO will collaborate with trumpeter Pacho Flores who is a first-prize winner at prestigious international competitions.

Well known for his outstanding performances and recordings that span all music genres, he has appeared with Osaka Philharmonic, Venezuelan Simon Bolivar Brass Quintet, and the Miami and Tokyo Symphonies. Among the luminaries that he has performed with include Seiji Ozawa, Claudio Abbado, Sir Simon Rattle and Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos.

Flores will next present an eclectic recital on Sunday, 6 March 2016 at 3.00 p.m., embracing music by ten composers from five countries such as Belgian Charlier, Spanish Pedro, Russian Goedicke, Uruguayan Crespo and Venezuelan Baez, among others.

Be caught up in rapture with the MPO and Pacho Flores, only at DFP!
