[International Entertainment] The 8th Asian Film Awards (AFA)! Asian Oscars see the Region’s Hottest Stars in City of Dreams

Hong Kong, 18th March 2014- Prepare for an evening that will dazzle with the glitz and glamour of the region’s hottest celebrities as they gather on the 27th of March for a night to celebrate Asian film industry. The 8th Asian Film Awards (AFA) will be held for the very first time in Macau, at The City of Dreams’ awe-inspiring Dancing Water Theatre.

The AFA, one of the highest accolades in the Asian film industry, boasts an enviable record of having some of the biggest stars from around the region adorn its red carpet. The 7th AFA saw the likes of international superstars Andy Lau and Michelle Yeoh gracing the occasion. 

This year, the AFA promises to be just as star-studded as the 7th with a list of nominees featuring stellar names like Wong Kar Wai, Zhang Ziyi, Tony Leung, Han Hyojoo, Song Kang-ho, Tsai Ming-liang and Huang Bo.

The 8th AFA also boasts some serious star power as the jury. Donnie Yen, renowned martial arts celebrity, will be one of the judges at this year’s Film Awards together with director Peter Chan, voted “Most Valuable Filmmaker” for his Midas touch at producing box office hits.

Isabelle Huppert, one of France’s greatest gifts to the cinematic world, will also be in attendance as the first honorary member of the newly established AFA Academy alongside the beautiful Korean actress Jeon Do-yeon, AFA’s chosen ambassador.

The film awards spans 73 nominations, 26 films, and 14 award categories from 13 countries. Nominated movies include The Grandmaster, which received a nod at the Oscars, as well as outstanding films such as Stray Dogs and The Attorney.

The 8th Asian Film Awards brings together three of Asia’s biggest cinematic powerhouses from Hong Kong, Busan and Tokyo. With the shift to Macau, one can expect international celebrities and special appearances that will make this awards ceremony a night to remember.

The annual Asian Film Awards was established in 2007 as the first Asian film awards that recognizes all the cinematic talents in the Asian region. The AFA is the only ceremony in the World that brings together the Asian cinematic elite.

The AFA will be the focal point of global attention as World-renowned filmmakers and celebrities gather on the red carpet. The judging panel consists of 12 respected film industry experts that will screen the nominated films through stringent judging processes and eventually vote to decide the winners of each of the 14 categories. The annual award ceremony has garnered attention from both industry professionals and movie fans alike. The AFA strives to promote cultural exchange between film industry professionals from all across Asia in the hope of propelling Asian films to greater heights.
