[Upcoming Concert Event] MPO Presents “Heroes And Rascals” @ Dewan Filharmonik Petronas

The MPO presents music from 'Heroes and Rascals' at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas!

Kuala Lumpur, 2024 - The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) presents Heroes And Rascals on Saturday, 30th March 2024, at 8.30 pm at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC.

Roberto Forés Vesses, a Valencia native, will make his DFP podium debut as the MPO's conductor. He has been appointed as the English Chamber Orchestra's Principal Guest Conductor for the 2024/25 season. Prior to this, he led prestigious orchestras including the St. Petersburg Symphony, Prague Philharmonia, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Nagoya Philharmonic of Japan, and Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano (formerly 'La Verdi'). He has also performed at numerous international music festivals, including Tokyo, Monaco, and Moscow. He is a prolific recording artist, having recorded works by Mahler, Schubert, and Schoenberg for reputable labels.

The concert begins with Mozart's lively Symphony No.32 as the curtain raiser. This work, composed in 1779, bears a striking resemblance to the old Italian opera overture, as opposed to his other symphonies.

This will be followed by Brahms' Hungarian Dances, which are known for their simple, casual enjoyment. The composer first became acquainted with Hungarian gypsy music through violinist Eduard Remenyi, who introduced him to its improvisatory nature, fiery performance style, and abrupt alternation between fast and slow sections. This work has solidified Brahms' reputation in the classical music world.

The program concludes with Beethoven's mighty Symphony No.3, dubbed 'Eroica'. It was written in the shadow of Napoleon, a heroic champion of freedom and liberty. Its first public performance occurred in Vienna in 1805, with the composer conducting. It far outperformed anything of its time; its harmonic language was greatly aided by its intensely strong rhythms. Don't miss this game-changing masterpiece!
