[Coverage] “The World Of Tim Burton” Press Conference and Opening Night

'THE WORLD OF TIM BURTON' DEBUTS IN MALAYSIA AS THE ONLY SOUTHEAST ASIAN COUNTRY TO HOST THE WORLD-RENOWNED POP-UP MUSEUM, AND THIS IS THE LAST TIME TO CATCH IT IN ASIA FROM MARCH TO JULY 2023.

Kuala Lumpur, March 2023 - The World of Tim Burton Exhibition has arrived in Malaysia, promising to be an exciting event for fans of the visionary director's unique and imaginative works. During a press conference held in conjunction with the exhibition's opening, organisers revealed some details about how everything came together.

The decision to bring The World of Tim Burton Exhibition to Kuala Lumpur was made to commemorate the anniversary of Toybox Projects, as well as to introduce something special and of international standard to the local entertainment and arts scene, according to the organiser, Ms. Yuri Aizawa, President & CEO of Toybox Projects Sdn. Bhd. As a result, they approached Tim Burton's team to make it a reality.

Brandi Pomfret, The World of Tim Burton''s collection and exhibition manager, revealed that they were considering Singapore as a possible venue for the exhibition at one point. When Toybox Projects approached the Tim Burton team, they were impressed with the passion of Malaysian fans who understand and love his work, and they decided to bring the exhibition to Kuala Lumpur instead.

While the Alice in Wonderland exhibits are noticeably absent from the exhibition, visitors can, however, expect to see a wide range of authentic exhibits from his films and even items from his work studio.

The organisers also revealed that some of Burton's works were scanned from sketches and this gives visitors a rare look into Burton's creative process and shows how his characters and themes evolve.

The thematic arrangement of the exhibition is an intriguing takeaway, highlighting how Burton returns to certain characters and themes throughout his work. There are also Easter eggs scattered throughout the exhibits, such as repeated use of certain background character, which adds an extra layer of fun and discovery for visitors.

Unfortunately, Tim Burton was diagnosed with COVID19, he was unable to come to Malaysia and the exhibition's masterclass has been rescheduled for 14th April 2023. However, this won’t stop the opportunities for the visitors to explore the exhibits and appreciate Tim Burton's unique world. Overall, The World of Tim Burton Exhibition promises to be a must-see event for fans of his work, as well as an exciting addition to the arts and entertainment scene in Kuala Lumpur.

The opening ceremony for the exhibition was officiated by YB Khairul Firdaus, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture (MOTAC), along with the organisers and partners of The World of Tim Burton.

Visitors will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to delve into Tim Burton's personal archive, which includes over 500 drawings, paintings, photographs, sketchbooks, moving-image works, and sculptural installations focusing on characters and worlds found in Burton's art and films.

Furthermore, Malaysia will be the first and only Southeast Asian country to host The World of Tim Burton, as well as the final Asia stop on the pop-up museum world tour. So be sure to check out while it’s in Malaysia!
